Melvin “Peanut” Rankin, 85, of Staunton, died Monday, May 17, 2021 at Shenandoah Valley Health and Rehab in Buena Vista, VA.
He was born September 7, 1935 in Middlebrook, a son of the late Otho Alexander and Alice Cornelius (Campbell) Rankin.
Prior to retirement, he was employed by Western State Hospital for over 39 years where he worked in occupational therapy and transportation. He loved his time there and especially loved his coworkers.
Mr. Rankin was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Melvin was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge. He was very active and enjoyed bluegrass music and camping. Peanut loved spending time with his grandkids, family and friends.
Family members include a daughter, Fonda Sundeen of Verona; a son, Jay Rankin and wife, Amy, of Chambersburg, PA; three grandchildren, Breanna Sundeen, Chandler Sundeen, and Caitlyn Rankin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date for family and friends.
