Michael Burnell Marzolf, 78, husband of Frances Margaret Manzella Marzolf, passed away on April 4, 2023 at his residence in Staunton.

Michael was born on July 13, 1944 in Grosse Pointe, MI to the late Charles McSween, II and Ruth Josephine Rector Marzolf.

He was a 1964 graduate of East Detroit High School and received his bachelors from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. in 1969. He went on to obtain his masters at Western Maryland College in 1974.

He taught chemistry and math at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton as a supervising teacher. He took a vested interest in the students and their activities - especially in the drama department. Following his retirement in 1999, he enjoyed making his own travel plans and journeyed around the world where he loved meeting other deaf people in different countries.

He also served as the co-director for Miss Deaf America for eight years under the National Association of the Deaf. He also oversaw many official positions for various organizations such as the Skyline Chapter of the NAD, the Robert E. Lee Chapter of Gallaudet University Alumni Association, and many others. He also received the Distinguished Award from the NAD and the Robert E. Lee Chapter of Gallaudet University Alumni Association.

He was a true gentleman who was never seen without a big smile.

In addition to his loving wife of fifty years, he is survived by his son, Thomas P. Marzolf; his sister, Cynthia J. Marzolf Fargo; his brother, Jeffrey James Marzolf and his wife Kathy; seven wonderful nieces and nephews; his sister-in-law, Rita Manzella Dietz; his nephew, Jason Dietz and his wife Terri and their four children, Rory, Jalina, Shaun, and Waverlyn; and very special family friend, Janice Couch Dillman.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Charles “Chuck” Eugene and Christopher Louis Marzolf.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 214 W. Beverley St., Staunton, VA 24401.
