Mildred M. Stewart

Mildred Virginia McClanahan Stewart, 97, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at The Legacy at North Augusta in Staunton.

She was born on August 15, 1926, in White Pine, TN to the late Harry Michael and Bunah Adeline Gouge McClanahan.

She was a member of Staunton's First Baptist Church. Mildred's strength of character shone through her faith, which guided her throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice Lee Briggs Shaver and her husband, Tommy; her grandsons, Mark and Michael Shaver; her great-grandchildren, Rachel, Dallas, Dillon, and Hunter Shaver; her nephews, William Patrick Stewart and his wife Sylvia and Michael Lair Stewart, and her step-grandsons, Todd Stewart, his wife, Nina, and their children, Karlie and Layla Stewart and Zachary Stewart, his wife, Alexandra, and their children, Gunnar Stewart and John "Nick" Corey. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Horace Lair Stewart; her son, Eddie Briggs; her sister, Margaret Elizabeth McClanahan Stewart; her brother, Harry McClanahan; her half-brothers, Charles Bullington McCoig and Roy Nelson McCoig; her half-sister Elizabeth Victoria McCoig Goan; and her first husband, Dearl Isaac Briggs, who passed away in 1981.

The family would like to especially thank Danny and Betty Pritchett for their love, support, and friendship with Mildred over the years.

A private inurnment will occur at a later date in White Pine Cemetery in Jefferson County, TN.
