Pastor Alton Wallace Wilson, a beloved minister and respected community member, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the age of 90.
He was born on April 29, 1934, in Tipton, PA, to the late Wallace Wright and Hazel Cameron Wilson.
Alton’s devotion to his faith was evident in his remarkable 51-year ministry, finally retiring from Christchurch in Waynesboro a few years ago.
In addition to his ministry, Alton served honorably in the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps, where he demonstrated a spirit of courage and resilience that he carried throughout his life. His commitment to his country and his community exemplified the principles of duty and honor.
He is survived by his daughter, April May Wilson; his two sons, Samuel David and Joseph Daniel Wilson; his grandchildren, Paige Wilson, Sarah Mowles, Alexander Menner, and Christian Menner; and his great-grandchild, Caela Buchanan.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Ann Martin Wilson; his daughter, Ruth Ann Wilson; his brother, Newell Cameron Wilson; and his sisters, Sarah Jane Wilson, Beverly Wilson Horton, and Laverne Wilson Baxter.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton with Pastor Sam Miller and Larry Pennington officiating.
