Philip H. Miller

Philip Herbert Miller, 81, husband of Kim (Showker) Miller, passed away on December 1, 2022.

He was born on April 16, 1941 in Toms River, NJ, a son of the late Herbert Frederick Miller and Pauline Minerva (Shirey) Miller.

Phil was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and Washington and Lee University Law School.

Phil practiced law for 54 years, having started in Northern Virginia, then moving to Staunton after 1 year to practice with Rudolph Bumgardner, Jr, which then became Bumgardner, Bumgardner, and Miller, and he also served as County Attorney for Augusta. Throughout his career he practiced with Rudolph “Duke” Bumgardner III, Robert L. Rhea and Whitney J. Levin until his retirement in 2020.

He was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church, the Staunton-Augusta Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He provided legal council for the Habitat for Humanity for 25 years and also served in the the Presbytery for many years. Other organizations Phil was involved in included: the Jaycees, a member of the Harley Owners Group and a former member of the Staunton Blues Brothers. Phil was also an avid golfer and Washington Nationals fan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Paul H. Miller; two daughters, Christine E. Biery, and Lisa M. Morrell; step-children, Ethan M. Hawkins, and J. Carter Hawkins (Taylor N. Cook); a brother, Glenn F. Miller (Lea); his grandchildren, Amanda A. Morrison (Logan B. Morris), Rachel E. Morrison, Andrew P. Morrell, Jenna K. Morrell, and Kenneth Blake Hawkins; a brother-in-law Don Bosserman (Sharon),a brother-in-law, Gene A. Showker II (Sherry) and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday December 5, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. at Henry Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Tuesday December 6, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Olivet Presbyterian Church by Rev. Lee Thomas.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Shenandoah, Dr. James LaGrua, Dr. Angela Sutton, Dr. William Jones, and Dr. James Boyers for their care and support during this time.
