Philip Randall Carpenter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2023, at his residence. He was born on April 29, 1935, in Amherst County to Rupert Deane Carpenter and Elsie Helen Drummond Carpenter.

Philip was a proud graduate of Temperance High School in Amherst County, VA in 1952. After completing his education, he served his country as a US Army Veteran stationed in Germany from 1955 to 1958. His dedication and service will be forever honored.

Throughout his life, Philip was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. He dedicated twenty-two years of his career to Smith's Transfer and later worked for Alcoa Building Products for eleven years. His untiring efforts and commitment made him a highly respected member of both organizations.

Outside of work, Philip found great joy in following sports. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and loved baseball and football. His passion for sports brought him many unforgettable memories and an opportunity to connect with fellow fans.

Philip's kind-hearted nature and warm presence touched the lives of many. His love for family and friends was immeasurable. He will be deeply missed by his surviving family members: Maxine Lines Carpenter, his loving wife of sixty-four years; granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth Carpenter of Pueblo, CO; and niece, Freida Carpenter Tucker from Amherst.

Philip is preceded in death by his son, Steven R. Carpenter; and, his siblings, Howard Deane Carpenter; Helen C. Roberts; Louise Carpenter Martin. He had a close relationship with his favorite great uncle Percy E. Campbell who also preceded him in death.

Philip lived a life filled with love, dedication, and unwavering loyalty to those who knew him best. The memories shared with him will forever be cherished as a testament to the impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, July 7, 2023 at Henry Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Hebron Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Doctor Henry D. Scoggins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family invites friends and family to join them for a reception in the fellowship hall.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Hoy, Mike Ruleman, Randy Moyer, Richie Moyer, Tommy Snyder, Jason Snyder, Josh Back, Jacob Back, and Bobbie Hoy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sherry Snyder, Missy Back, Traci Marshall and Robin Moyer.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Hebron Presbyterian Church (423 Hebron Road, Staunton, VA 24401).
