Rayburn E. Harris, Sr.

Rayburn Eugene Harris, Sr., 67, passed away on January 29, 2025, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

He was born on April 13, 1957, in Staunton to the late Carl Alexander, Sr. and Mary Evaline Cason Harris.

Rayburn graduated from James Madison University and practiced as an accountant throughout his professional career. He most recently served as finance manager at Valley Career and Technical Center.

He was also a member of the Virginia Society of Tax and Accounting Professionals.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Rayburn found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He had a deep passion for fishing, particularly in the Chickahominy River.

He survived by his wife of forty-four and a half years, Elizabeth Ruth Falls Harris; his siblings, Mary Sandra Harris Sink, Clarence Bushong Harris, Sr., William Lee Harris, and Leland Francis Harris; his grandchildren, Lucas Corinthian, Elizabeth Grace, Isabella Reann, Rosealynn Faith, and Anastasia Hope; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Rayburn Eugene Harris, Jr.; brothers, Carlton” Andy” Andrew Harris and Carl Alexander Harris, Jr.; and a niece, Sara Lynne Harris.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 3, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Staunton with the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald officiating.

Interment will follow at Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Staunton.
