Richard D. Headifen

Richard Daniel Headifen, 86, of Staunton, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025, at his residence after a prolonged illness.

Richard was born on June 3, 1938, in Wellington, New Zealand.

He grew up in the town of Taumarunui on the North Island, where he and his father ran a country store. Later, he moved back to Wellington and got his degree from Wellington University.

In his mid-twenties, Richard decided to explore and experience living in various places across the world. His travels included diverse parts of Europe, Asia, India, Africa, the Pacific Islands, and North America.

He met his American wife, Nancy Allison Whiteman, in Switzerland and the two were married in 1983. They lived in several parts of the United States before settling in beautiful Staunton, which has been their home for thirty years.

Richard and Nancy will be forever grateful to all the nurses, home health care professionals, hospice workers, and doctors for their wonderful care and compassion over the past several years.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Central and Western Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association (1010 Ednam Center, Suite #203, Charlottesville, VA 22903).
