HARRISONBURG, VA Richard Coyle Schroeder, 92, widower of Clara Mae (Davenport) Schroeder, died Friday, April 25, 2014, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital. By the grace of Almighty God, through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Richard is home resting with his Lord. He was born on May 3, 1921 in Indianapolis, IN, the son of the late Andrew Coyle and Welma (Owens) Coyle. Mr. Schroeder served in the U.S. Army Coast Artillery during WWII. Following his honorable discharge from the army, he served as an Air Craft Instrument Technician for the Norfolk Naval Air Station. He was a member of Fairview Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), as well as a member of the Madison County American Legion Post 157. Family members include a son, The Rev. Jeffery Coyle Schroeder of Massanutten, and his fiancée, Deborah Ann Blumer; a step-daughter, The Rev. Leonda Hardison of Rowe, MA; and five step-grandchildren. A Service of Celebration and Reflection on his life will be conducted on Tuesday, April 29, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Fairview Christian Church. The Rev. Dr. Glenn Holman, pastor of Hope Community Church in Waynesboro, will officiate. Funeral rites will be performed at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery by the East Augusta County American Legion Post 340. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Darrell Lee, Gerry Stephenson, Hunter Weaver, Kenneth Smith, Toby Allen and David Warren Smith. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Fairview Christian Church, P.O. Box 19, Hood, VA 22723.
