Richard Eugene Whitmore

RICHARD E. WHITMORE STAUNTON, VA Richard Eugene Whitmore, 82, widower of Vottie (Swisher) Whitmore, of 1706 Orchard Lane, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, in Shenandoah House, Fishersville. He was born June 4, 1929, in Augusta County, a son of the late Charles Lankford Whitmore and Katie (Jarman) Cox. Prior to retirement, Richard was employed as a store manager. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he was president of the Men of the Church. He was a member of the Virginia National Guard for 13 years. In addition to his wife of 56 years, he was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard D. and Candi Whitmore of Staunton and Dwayne E. and Laurie Whitmore of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Debra J. Morris of Staunton; and eight grandchildren, Katie, Douglas, Dustin, Taylor, Lauren-Shey, Tyler, Spencer, and Aleyna. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011, in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. Robert D. McCarty. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2011, in the Henry Funeral Home.
