Ricky Randall Moomau, 66, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at his residence in Staunton.
He was born on October 7, 1957, in Smyrna, Tennessee, to the late Quinlyn Felton and Betty Lois Corbin Moomau.
A proud graduate of Riverheads High School’s Class of 1977, Ricky extended his passion for learning into a successful career spanning 40 years at DuPont. His contributions to the company were significant, showcasing his uncompromising work ethic and dedicated service.
In addition to his professional achievements, Ricky was well-known for his love of sports and physical fitness. He was an avid power lifter and earned a state record for bench pressing 525 pounds at the age of 52. His prowess in the sport was complemented by his commitment to fostering talent in others; Ricky volunteered at the Waynesboro YMCA, he also helped judge power lifting events at the Special Olympics. His love for sports was further expressed through his induction into the Riverheads Hall of Fame for Football and his role as a referee for various sports in the area. He was also a dedicated softball player, having played with various teams throughout the area.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Bailey Moomau; his sons, Steven Dejarnette and his wife, Renee, and Cody Moomau; his daughter, Andrea M. Escalante and her husband, Iwin; his sister, Lynn Moomau Hensley; and his grandchild, Thiago Escalante; his numerous nieces and nephews, Brittany Fitzgerald Showalter and her husband, Christopher; Raven Stallings and her husband, Pete; Sarah Beverage, and Brandon Hensley; two great-nephews, Hunter Showalter and Espen Beverage; his mother-in-law, Laura Slattery; and numerous cousins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Edward Wayne Moomau, and his sister, Vickie Dawn Moomau Fitzgerald.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
It is suggested that those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah (c/o Augusta Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939).
