Rita Gail Clay Griffin, of West Augusta, entered Heaven on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 1:40 AM at Augusta Health in Fishersville, surrounded by her loving family. At 66 years old, she is now free from pain and suffering and fully at peace.
Born on November 8, 1958, in Montgomery County to Roger Gale Clay and the late Edna Mae Miles Parks.
Rita lived with fierce love, loud laughter, and a heart that held nothing back. She was known for her unwavering support of her sons - especially as the loudest voice in the stands at their football games, proudly ringing her cowbell and cheering them on with everything she had.
Rita shared a nearly forty-year journey of love, laughter, and deep companionship with her devoted husband, Gary Wayne Griffin. Together, they built a life filled with family and unconditional love.
In addition to father and her loving husband, she is survived by her sons, Joshua Reed Clay Griffin and his wife, Kendall and Wesley Scott Griffin and his wife, Heather; her treasured granddaughters, Blakely Griffin and Tayler Griffin; her siblings, Becky Clay Christensen, Crystal Trice, and Bobby Joe Clay; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her stepmother, Freida Clay.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing that Rita has entered Heaven - whole, healed, and watching over her family with the same fierce love she gave every day of her life.
