ROBERT L. GARDNER, JR. STAUNTON, VA Robert Lee Gardner, Jr., 62, husband of Charlotte M. Gardner, of 1717 Orange Street, left his life here on earth on Friday, June 24, 2011, at his residence. He was born April 18, 1949, in Staunton a son of the late Robert Lee Gardner, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth (Hargis) Gardner Bemus. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, John Bemus. Mr. Gardner was a veteran of the U.S. Army and received many medals and strips. He was a lifetime member of the Staunton Moose, Staunton VFW Post 2216 and was a member of the Staunton Salvation Army. He was taken care of by his step-son and daughter-in-law for the past five years. In addition to his wife, whom he married on October 20, 1995, family members include a step-son and daughter-in-law, James and Barbara Lotts; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Caitlin, Michael Joseph Lotts, Russell and Clintion Huntley, Jaden and Ethan Huntley, and many other step children; two sisters-in-law, Doris Fitzgerald and Rachel Rowe; and nieces and nephews, Anthony and Marjorie Rowe, Brittany Rowe, and Michael Lawrence. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2011, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Major Sam D. Hearn. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery with military rites by the Staunton VFW Post 2216. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2011, in the funeral home and other times at his residence. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O.
