Robert "Bob" Lonax Simmons, 85, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2024, at his residence in Waynesboro.

Born on July 10, 1939, in Headwaters, to the late Clyde Ashby and Mary Evelyn Shrader Simmons, Bob lived a life marked by dedication, service, and warm connections with those around him.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Bob's commitment to his country laid the groundwork for a remarkable career. After his military service, he dedicated nearly forty years to DuPont, where he ultimately retired as a supervisor. His work was a testament to his steadfast character and strong work ethic, which resonated in all facets of his life.

Bob was a faithful member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, where he contributed his time and energy to the community that he loved. He was not only a man of deep faith but also a country boy at heart. His love for the outdoors and hunting were woven into the very fabric of his life. He took great joy in working the land, feeling a profound connection with nature.

Among his many talents, Bob had a passion for woodworking, especially for crafting beautiful picture frames. His creations reflected his meticulous attention to detail and the love he poured into each piece.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred "Millie" Adair Hutchens Simmons; his son, Keith Aaron Simmons and his wife, Johnda; his daughter, Gwen Louise Simmons Smith and her husband, Will; his grandchildren, Lauren Simmons, Caleb Simmons, and Evelyn Smith; his sister, Janice Marie Simmons Warner, and his brother, Roger Lee Simmons and his wife, Nancy.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, George Allen and Frederick Stuart Simmons.

A graveside service will be held in his honor at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton. A memorial will service will directly follow, beginning at 2:00 PM at Smyrna Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro.
