Roberta "Bobbie" R. McGhee

Roberta (Bobbie) Jeanne Riley McGhee, 67, of Staunton, Virginia, passed away suddenly at her home on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

She was born on April 12, 1957, in North Platte, Nebraska, to the late Max Herman Riley and Marjorie Barraclough Riley.

Bobbie spent most of her youth in Manhattan Beach, California, before making Virginia home in 1982. Distance was no barrier to Bobbie's relationships, as she maintained deep connections with friends across miles and decades through her gift of gab and genuine interest in others' lives. Her presence brought joy and comfort to all who knew her.

She lived her life in service to others, dedicating herself to caring for elderly members of her community. She provided not just practical assistance with daily tasks and medical needs but also brought warmth and companionship to countless lives. Her natural ability to connect with others was one of her greatest gifts – she truly never met a stranger and could turn chance encounters into lasting friendships.

She is survived by her daughters, Catherine (McGhee) Morgan and her husband, Rex and their daughter Evelyn; and Jessica McGhee; her brother, Michael Riley of Simi Valley, California; and her niece, Michelle Johns Wyatt of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Christine Riley Cummins and Patricia Riley Johns and by her brother, Walter Riley.

A celebration of Bobbie's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church in Staunton, Virginia, where she was a longtime member. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM.

In honor of Bobbie's lifelong love for animals, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to your local SPCA.
