Ronnie E. Via

Ronnie Eugene Via, 82, husband of Carolyn J. Fitzgerald Via, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at his residence in Staunton. 

He was born on March 4, 1942, in Augusta County to the late Glennie Ferguson and Bessie Pauline Downey Via Wood.

A proud Navy veteran, Ronnie served his country with honor before embarking on a successful career at A&P for 36 years. His hard work and commitment in this role were a testament to his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his loved ones.

Beyond his professional achievements, he was also a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church in Staunton, the Stonewall Rifle & Pistol Club in Churchville, and Staunton Elks Lodge #351. Ronnie was an avid hunter, a passion that brought him immense joy and allowed him to enjoy the great outdoors. He also took great pleasure in collecting firearms, a hobby that showcased his appreciation for craftsmanship and history. Ronnie was known for his enthusiastic support of his grandchildren's sporting events, relishing every moment spent cheering them on and sharing in their successes.

In addition to his beloved wife of 55 years, Ronnie is survived by his son, Todd A. Via (Tori); his daughter, Summer Via Sheets (Nathan); and his grandchildren, Taylor A. Via, Teagan H. Via, Kiptyn M. Sheets, Thatcher H. Via, and Granger Via Sheets.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Glenn Via, Marsha C. DeLong, and his stepfather, James Allen Wood. 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 16, 2024 at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton with the Reverend Lee Thomas officiating.
