It is with profound sadness and love that we announce the passing of Samuel Williams, Jr., who left this world on Thursday, July 18, 2024, in Staunton, VA.
He was born on July 10, 1952, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Samuel Williams, Sr., and Willie Bell Deal.
Samuel, affectionately known as "Will," touched the lives of many. He dedicated his life to serving his country, honorably retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force. His distinguished career included service during Operation Desert Shield/Storm, earning numerous commendations, medals, and recognition for his honorable service.
Outside his military service, Will expressed his love through cooking. With deep roots in New Orleans, his gumbo was legendary, and he dreamed of sharing his culinary talents through a restaurant or food truck. Though he was often reserved, those who knew him well cherished his laughter, good times, and genuine connection he offered.
Will is survived by his son, Christopher; his daughter, Jessica R. Johnson and her husband, Bryant Johnson; his son, Jeremy L. Williams; his daughter, Geri Biddy and her husband, Daniel Biddy; his brothers, Thomas Deal and his daughter, Sherita Deal, Gus Williams and his children, Christian and Adam; his sister, Connie Caliste Caufield and her daughters, Shayoni Caliste and Sky Williams; and his grandchildren, Devin, Ruben, Gia, and Miles.
He is also remembered by extended family members Charles and Diane Cubbage, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved and cared for him deeply.
Will shall be profoundly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
A visitation and celebration of life will take place at 1:00 to 1:45 PM on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
A graveside service with full military honors will immediately follow at Thornrose Cemetery beginning at 2:00 PM, where we will honor his legacy and spirit.
