Born on August 28, 1940, in Staunton, to the late Rex and Clotielde Harriette Hawkins Spiece, Sharon led a life that was rich in melody, rhythm, and devotion to teaching.
Sharon's academic journey culminated with a bachelor's degree in music from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, where her musical talent flourished. She was not only an inspiring teacher but also a lifelong learner, eager to share her knowledge and love of music with others.
For thirty remarkable years, Sharon dedicated herself to the Staunton City Schools system as a music teacher, fostering a love for music in the hearts of countless students. Her career was not merely a profession; it was a calling that allowed her to make a profound impact on young lives through the power of song. As a passionate educator, Sharon left an indelible mark that will resonate in the memories of her students forever. She will be warmly remembered not only for her contributions in the areas of education and music, but for her unwavering love and support for the students she came in contact with on a daily basis.
In addition to her teaching career, Sharon was a longtime, active member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church in Staunton and held affiliation with the Eagle Mountain International Church of Fort Worth, Texas. Her faith was a guiding light in her life and provided her with strength and purpose throughout her years.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Charles Mark Phibbs, Sr., whom she married in March 27, 1982, and her daughter, Robyn Kimberley Bennett Nevins. She also leaves behind her stepsons, Charles Mark Phibbs, Jr. and Steven Paul Phibbs, who were treasured members of her family.
