Mr. Sidney Marvin Supple, 102, husband of Eleanor J. Supple, of Staunton, died at 5:50 p.m., Monday, October 21, 2024, at The Legacy at North Augusta in Staunton.

He was born on July 22, 1922, in Greenville, a son of the late Sidney B. Supple and Bessie E. (Mines) Supple. He was a graduate of Stuarts Draft High School and Dunsmore Business College. He also received his real estate license. 

Mr. Supple was employed at the Virginia Gas District Corp., was the owner and founder of S & W Corp., and worked as a REALTOR at American Real Estate and Real Estate III.

He was an active member of Greenville United Methodist Church, then First Presbyterian Church in Staunton. 

Mr. Supple was a past President of the Staunton-Augusta County Chamber of Commerce, past President of the Staunton Lions Club, past President of the Staunton-Augusta County United Way, past President and board member of the Mental Health Association of Augusta, and a past board member of the Salvation Army. He was a member of the Staunton Lions Club and the Staunton Masonic Lodge No. 13 A.F. & A.M. He was also a World War II veteran who served in the Philippines with the Army Air Corps from February 3, 1943 to November 22, 1945.

On June 30, 1948, Mr. Supple and Louise Mitchell were united in marriage in Staunton. After Louise’s passing on January 18, 1984, he married Eleanor Jamison on October 10, 1987, in Roanoke.

In addition to his second wife, survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Max Hirtriter, Jr. of Staunton; a son and partner, Stephen Supple and Gilbert Stratton of Charlottesville; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Stephanie and Brian Mitchell of Zion Crossroads; a great grandson, Bentley Sidney Mitchell; a step-granddaughter, Pamela Scheider of Staunton; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; nieces, Becky Cox and her husband, Earl and Sue Smith and her husband, Craig; nephews, Douglas Hawpe and his wife, Jeanne and Jackson Michael and his wife, Carole; and a step-nephew, William C. Leach. He is also survived by many extended family members and special friends, including Martha Wray, Peggy James, and David Nisenger.

Mr. Supple was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; his brothers, Earl. F. Supple and Lawrence E. Supple; and his sisters, Inez S. Hawpe, Velma S. Wiseman, and Katie S. Michael Caricofe.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with the Reverend Doctor Jeff Binder and Pastor Ryan Oswald officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM. A graveside service will follow at Greenville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Max Hirtriter Jr., Brian Mitchell, Doug Mitchell, Douglas Hawpe, Bo Flint, and Chris Gee. Members of the Staunton Lions Club and Masonic Lodge No. 13 A.F. & A.M. will act as honorary pallbearers.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Mental Health Association of Augusta (101 West Frederick Street, Suite 206, Staunton, VA 24401); the Staunton Salvation Army (1700 West Beverley Street, Staunton, VA 22401); First Presbyterian Church (100 East Frederick Street, Staunton, VA 24401); Greenville United Methodist Church (126 Main Street, Greenville, VA 24440); or to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah (c/o Augusta Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939).
