Stephen J. Powell

Stephen James Powell, 57, of Staunton, fell asleep in death at home, with his loyal wife by his side, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

Stephen was born on February 13, 1967, in Malden, Massachusetts to the late Lester Leroy Powell and the late Eleanor Hurley Paolin Powell.

Because of his devout love for his God Jehovah, Stephen dedicated his life as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the early age of 17. Serving several years as a full-time minister, he spent his time sharing his faith with others. Stephen lived his life in harmony with the words found at Psalms 1:1-3. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He found much comfort in the promise from the Bible about a peaceful earth with no suffering and death as mentioned at Revelation 21:3, 4.

Stephen is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 31 years, Katherine Powell; his sonss Paul Powell and his wife, Casey Anthony, Ryan Powell and his wife, Mercedes, and Scott Powell; his daughter, Elizabeth Powell; his grandchildren, Jonathan Powell, Robbie Powell, Brendan Powell, and Arya Powell; his brother, Scott Wayne Powell; his sisters, Cheryl Lynn Johnson, Robin Marie Hanlon, Darlene Kay Cundy, and Bonnie Lee Sanford; as well as many other extended family and friends who will miss him greatly.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents Lester Leroy Powell and Eleanor Hurley Paolin Powell.

There will be a memorial service held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (1868 Spring Hill Road, Staunton, VA, 24401). A Zoom link is available.
