Thomas E. Reed

Thomas Edward Reed, 78, of 847 Maple Street, Staunton, departed this life to be with the Lord and loved ones that went before him on Thursday October 17, 2024, at King's Daughters Health and Rehabilitation Center in Staunton.

Thomas was born on September 30, 1946 in Staunton to the late Geneva Reed Howard. 

Thomas was a faithful worker at Mary Baldwin University for thirty-five years.

Thomas was dedicated to his church, Mt. Salem Baptist Church, and served as a Deacon. 

Thomas was a friend to all he met. His love for people was shown each and every day. He was always willing to help and care for others. He was a true missionary, who would always visit the sick and shut-ins. He visited and sang songs in the nursing homes. He supported his church by his tithes and offerings plus collecting cans and donating the money.

He would also take church dinners to others who had no transportation or who could not afford a dinner.

Thomas leaves behind those who cherish his memory: his five sisters, Cynthia Howard of Dover, DE, Mary Howard of Staunton, Betty Matthews (Bruce), Phyllis White (Algernon), and Geneva Lockwood, all of Lakeland, FL; his nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Mt. Salem Baptist Church in Staunton with Elder Sam Spears officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 PM. 

A repast will be held in the church social hall following the service.

The family would like to especially thank Elder Spears, Roy Durrette, Margaret Lyle, Patty Smith, the Missionary Society, Deacon Board, and the Mt. Salem Baptist Church family.
