Violet Marie Howard Fitzgerald, 91, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Laurels of Charlottesville.
Marie was born on December 9, 1933, in Richmond, to the late James Fred Howard and Laura Eva Mae Kelly Wells.
A woman of many talents, Marie was known for her passion for bowling and creating ceramics. She reveled in the simple pleasures of going to yard sales, where she could find hidden treasures, and her love for cooking allowed her to create countless meals that brought her family together. Her humble spirit and enthusiasm for life endeared her to all who knew her. She also loved the Bible and shared her life-long faith with others by quoting and reciting Bible verses.
Marie is survived by her three children, George Garber Fitzgerald III and his wife, Roxanne Marie, Troy Wesley Fitzgerald and his partner, Lorisol Rodriguez, and Judy Lynn Fitzgerald Cosgrove and her husband, John Curtis; her grandchildren, Joshua Alonzo Abshire and his wife, Angela, Jacob Nathaniel Cosgrove and his wife, Dezi, Jenna Elisabeth Cosgrove, Joseph Daniel Fitzgerald and his wife, Sarah, George Garber Fitzgerald IV and his wife, Sarah, and Angela Christine Weaver; and her great-grandchildren, Camilla, Joshua, Ashlynn, Koty (May), Kaleb, Kasey, Ally (Seneca), and Meghan. She is also survived by her companion, Charlie, and Sharon Lynn Huffman Fitzgerald.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, George Garber Fitzgerald, Jr., and her brothers and sisters, Fred Ernest, David Lawrence, and George "Danny" Daniel Howard and Mary Louise Howard Gregory and Peggy Laura Howard Teele.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro with Pastor Bill Johnson officiating.
It is suggested that those desiring may make memorial contributions to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital (501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105) or to the Central and Western Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association (1010 Ednam Center, Suite 203, Charlottesville, VA 22903).
The family would like to especially thank the Unit I caregivers of the Laurels of Charlottesville: Heather, Angela, Crystal, and Joy for all of their kindness, care, and compassion.
