William David Law, 88, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at his residence in Staunton.
Born on September 7, 1935, in Henry County, to the late Thomas Stamps and Anna Eliza Hairfield Law, Sr., David lived a life filled with passion for his work and love for his family.
A farrier for over sixty years, David served as the head farrier at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington. With a specialty in corrective shoeing, his expertise and commitment to his craft made him a revered figure among horse lovers and professionals alike. David took great pride in his role, ensuring that horses received the best possible care and shoeing to support their wellbeing and performance. His work exemplified dedication and excellence. He enjoyed passing on his knowledge as a farrier to others who shared his passion for horses.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, David cherished his family deeply. He was a devoted husband to Flora Belle Harris Law until her passing. Together, they built a loving family that brought them great happiness. David’s love for his family extended to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He adored spending time with them, creating countless memories.
Outside of work and family life, David was an active member of Victory Worship Center in Staunton and in his leisure time, David could often be found at "the office" in Greenville.
David’s military service as a mechanic and Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force further demonstrated his commitment to serving others. His dedication to his country mirrored the values he held close in his personal and professional life.
He is survived by his daughters, Sandy and Wayne Mullins and Kim and L.E. Humphrey; his grandsons, Dallas and Chat Hite, II, and David Hite; his great-grandchildren, Robin Shaye, Conner Lee, and Lilly Marie Hite; his great-goddaughter, Lydia Ann Shull; his special friends, Lerty Humphries and Angela and Chuck Wiseman; and his special caregiver, Barbara Thompson.
In addition to his parents and his loving wife of fifty-three years, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Stamps Jr., John Marshall, and Donald Robert Law; his daughter, Betty Gail Law Beverly; his sister, Sallie Francis Law Martin; and his grandson, Daniel Wayne Hite.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 9, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, starting at 1:00 PM at Henry Funeral Home with the Reverend Ray Eppard and Pastor Joe Sherrill officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton.
Active pallbearers will be James Law, Wayne Mullins, L.E. Humphreys, Dallas Hite, Conner Hite, and Kevin Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be David Hite and Lerty Humphries.
The family would like to especially thank his other caregivers, April, Carol, Gail, Sandy, Kim, Nikki, Peggy, and Deb, for all of the care and attention they provided to David in his later years.
